Dr Amélie ANOTA is coordinating the Q-RECIST project within the EORTC Quality of Life Group. They are actually seeking for a fellowship to work on Q-RECIST.
EORTC promotes multidisciplinary cancer research in Europe. EORTC research is conducted in over 300 university hospitals in 32 countries. Its network of investigators comprises more than 2500 scientists and clinicians collaborating in 20 multidisciplinary groups.
The EORTC offers a one-year research fellowship to learn about patient-reported outcomes and quality of life in cancer clinical studies by participating in the activities of the Quality of Life department and being immersed in the activities of an international academic research organization.
Quality of life (QOL) data are collected in clinical trials to supplement traditional clinical outcomes (e.g. survival), and help determine the effectiveness of a treatment when quality of life, and not survival, is the ultimate goal. However, the utility of QOL data can go beyond these objectives; the availability of such data enables the investigation of significant but neglected topics relating to QOL in various areas of clinical cancer trials research.
Main aims and tasks:
The focus of the fellowship will be on building a criterion to summarize the longitudinal QOL data in a single metric to qualify the deterioration, the improvement or stability over time of the patient. This metric will simplify the analysis and interpretation of longitudinal QOL data, and will be used for future design involving QOL as a primary or co-primary endpoint.
- Coordinate and manage the day-to-day activities of the project
- To develop a consensus methodology type DELPHI (creation of an expert committee, elaboration of the questionnaire to collect experts’ opinions, analysis of the experts’ opinions and diffusion of the recommendations)
- Work closely with other members of the team and international collaborators to successfully deliver project outcomes
- Present findings in international conferences
- Write final reports and articles for publication
- A Master’s degree in biostatistics or equivalent science degree with good knowledge in statistics
- Preferably experience in psychometrics, patient-reported outcomes, quality of life, and clinical trials
- Working knowledge of SAS is an asset
- Excellent organizational skills
- Motivated and with own initiative
- A team player and with a collaborative mind set
- Ability to work independently, under supervision of the Quality of Life Department staff
- Fluent in English, both oral and written
- Age below 35 years
Support to the fellow is provided by a multidisciplinary staff including psychologists, medical doctors and biostatisticians. The fellowship will take place at the EORTC Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, and the work will be carried with international collaborators in several European countries.
